About BRAD SUGARS Training Business Owners…
Brad Sugars is widely regarded as the World’s Number 1 business coach due to his career training business owners. His is a well know public speaker on business growth and investing, a bestselling author with 15 books to his credit, and a leading business educator. His reputation for turning around struggling companies and selling them for massive profits earned him the nickname “the turnaround kid” when he was in his early twenties in Australia.
Now in his early forties, his successful ownership role in over 50 companies has made him an authority on business building. His primary business today (ActionCOACH) has grown into an international franchise with 1,000 offices in 49 countries.
To understand why Brad teaches what he does in Profit Masters, it is helpful to understand his background and his motivation. A more in-depth background on Brad Sugars can be found at www.bradsugars.com.
Like many teenagers, Brad had a paper route growing up in Adelaide, Australia. However, Brad didn’t enjoy getting up early on the cold winter mornings, so he employed his friends to deliver the papers for him and kept a percentage of the revenue for himself from each of the routes. This was his first lesson in leverage. At age 15, he spent his own money to attend a Jim Rohn seminar. This was a life changing event, and Brad adopted Jim Rohn’s “hard work” ethic. In fact, Brad still quotes Jim Rohn to this day as one of his early mentors.
Brad’s first real business experience training business owners…
started while he was an accounting student in Queensland, Australia. Because he was a fast learner, he used his spare time to work in 27 different jobs while attending Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. He quickly discovered that few people gave their best effort as an employee or business owner, and he was determined to be different. By the time Brad was 21, he was running four retail stores and had a photocopy management contract, earning a salary of $60,000 a year.
With no capital but a lot of smart ideas on how to create sales, provide better marketing, and lead a team, he managed to increase profits by 39% in nine months of managing the four retail stores. He then bought a 33% share into a ladies fashion store with no money down based solely on his ability to create sales – which led to a sales increase of 93% during the first nine weeks. Brad sold his interest back to the other partners just 3 months later. He did the same with a pizza manufacturing business, taking its product from being sold only in cafes to being stocked on the shelves of Woolworths – as well as almost every other small retailer in Queensland.
Brad considers the photocopy business to be his first real business, which he started when he was still at QUT studying for his business and accounting degree. The concept of self-service photocopying was new in Australia, and Brad’s shop was one of the first of its kind in the country.
After graduating from university, he endeavored to learn as much as he could about business and investing. Every dollar he earned was spent on courses about money, investing, sales, business and personal growth. Brad estimates that he has currently spent nearly half a million dollars over his lifetime training himself by attending seminars and classes outside of his formal education. “You see, I knew that to achieve what I wanted out of life wasn’t going to be about how hard I worked, but about how much I knew,” he says. Brad often says today in his seminars and webinars that you have to “learn before you earn”.
After getting his accounting degree, Brad focused on buying struggling businesses, improving their systems, conversion rates, average dollar sales, number of transactions and profit margins. He then sold these businesses to new buyers for huge profits. Brad took the profits from the sale of these transformed businesses and began investing in real estate and other investments that would earn him passive income. These experiences helped Brad develop the fundamental building blocks for all of his business coaching and investing methods he teaches today.
While running the photocopy shop, Brad encouraged his clients to print newsletters as a way of growing their business; this in turn grew his photocopy sales (another example of leverage). Many of these same business clients asked Brad for advice on running their businesses better and he began running a business consulting schedule out of his photocopy shop. This was the start of his business coaching activities, which were formalized when Action International was formed in 1993. After receiving some services from Brad, bestselling author Robert Kiyosaki asked Brad to come and train his seminar promoters in the art of marketing. Little did Brad know where this would take him. Soon, he was training 30 seminar promoters in Hawaii and this naturally led him into a business of providing public speaking on business growth topics. Running seminars in Hong Kong, New Zealand and Melbourne forced Brad to sell the pizza manufacturing business back in Brisbane and this money was used to help fund Action International’s expansion into an international organization that trained and consulted with business owners and managers.
Robert Kiyosaki then asked Brad to conduct training sessions at his Business School for Entrepreneurs in Hawaii later that year. Brad trained more than 350 business owners from around the world, as well as eleven sales trainers (mostly in their 40’s and 50’s) who were twice his age. Brad knew that to be successful at this new endeavor would require his full concentration so he found a business partner to help manage his business affairs back home while he was presenting hundreds of seminars and doing consulting all over Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the United States. Action International (which would be renamed ActionCOACH in 2006) would grow into a fast growing international business that firmly established Brad Sugars as a public speaker and pioneer in the new Business Coaching industry.
By age 26, Action International was running smoothly without Brad’s direct involvement in the day to day activities and he had amassed millions of dollars in wealth and was able to financially retire. He was living the life most people only dreamed of. There was just one problem: he grew tired of retirement and playing golf with men twice his age, so Brad jumped back into the game of business and doubled his focus on helping others achieve business success while continuing to invest in businesses, real estate, and other investments himself.
Over the years, Brad personally coached thousands of companies and their owners to greater success. Brad systemized Action International into the franchise organization that would become ActionCOACH and expand into the award winning global powerhouse that it is today. ActionCOACH has been awarded the #1 Business Coaching Franchise in the World every year since 2004 (Entrepreneur Magazine), and is currently ranked the #76 Franchise in the World (Entrepreneur Magazine). The company was also named Best Overall Company in North America (Stevie Awards) and has received dozens of other awards.
While Brad no longer provides one-on-one Business Coaching services himself, his ActionCOACH franchise organization of Business Coaches provides weekly coaching of training business owners to over 15,000 companies and is the most recognized name and the leading Business Coaching Company in the world. Brad believes that all business owners can benefit from an ActionCOACH Business Coach in achieving their own business success – and his long term vision is to see a Business Coach in every business.
Brad no longer finds it necessary to work in the businesses he owns, however, he is driven by the satisfaction of helping other business owners succeed and still does training business owners at his live free events. Brad continues to dazzle audiences with his business teachings based on real-life experiences. In 2009, Brad began a world-wide tour visiting 87 cities in 16 countries with his “Business Is Booming” seminar tour. Nearing the end of this tour, he was involved in a car-jacking incident in a major city after leaving the airport when the car he was riding in was stopped and shot at.
This incident proved to be a pivotal moment and a major catalyst for creating the Profit Masters system. Brad was already tired of the non-stop travel and sorely missing being with his family. He knew he wanted to continue helping business owners transform their businesses and their lives with the most effective business building systems, strategies and practices in the world. Utilizing the power of the Internet would enable him to continue delivering business education through streaming webinars, video, audio and electronic documents. He built an online portal called Brad Sugars Profit Masters and put together an 11-Day Webinar Series on Entrepreneurship. Now training business owners can be done anywhere in the world via his Brad Sugars Profit Masters. Members can now afford to spend hours taking in Brad’s business teaching without ever leaving their desk.
Over his career, Brad has taught nearly a half-million people how to create business, real estate and financial success. Brad is still doing live seminars and public speaking engagements to live audiences today, but is enjoying a more balanced approach to travel, while spending more time with his family and running Profit Masters activities from his home.
